New Moon and Full Moons explained

In Astrology, a New Moon represents the beginning of a lunar cycle which last 30 days. This happens when the Sun and Moon are conjunct (in the same zodiac sign). This conjunction aspect creates a merging between the ego and self-expression (Sun) and emotional needs (Moon).

A New Moon symbolises new beginnings, fresh intentions and a time to plant seeds for future growth. New Moons are associated with introspection, renewal and goal setting, they bring fresh opportunities to initiate changes.

During a New Moon, the Moon is positioned between the Sun and Earth and it appears invisible. Emotions lie beneath the surface, we reflect, set intentions and connect with ourselves. They represent the beginning of an emotional chapter, the Moon’s invisibility symbolises that feelings are beginning to take shape.

In Astrology, a Full Moon represents the culmination point of the lunar cycle which lasts 30 days. It occurs when the position of the Sun and Moon are exactly opposite in the zodiac. This opposition act creates a push-pull dynamics between the ego, pride and self-expression (Sun) and emotional needs (Moon).

A Full Moon represents a peak of feeling, it happens at a time when emotional sensitivity is heightened. Full Moons are associated with drama but also the closing of a chapter, they indicate a time of emotional release and purging.

This this alignment, the Moon is fully illuminated by the Sun. Emotions that were once previously hidden are shown and brought into conscious awareness. They bring an ending to an emotional chapter, the Moon is at peak visibility which means that what we feel internally has reached maximum expression.
